Sacramento River Salmon Fishing Report For September 29, 2017

Salmon fishermen on the Sacramento River and Sacramento River salmon fishing guides waited patiently as the salmon season here in Northern California pressed on with very little to be excited about in the way of salmonoids. Not much was being reported out of the Sacramento River through the majority of the season. The Feather River which was much more in the public eye caught most of the buzz from the NorCal salmon anglers and salmon fishing guides in the North State.  But as October rolls around on the Sacramento River, in true traditional fashion a very catchable amount of two year old king salmon have shown up filling the holes of the upper Sacramento River, in the canyon region and all the way up to the "old mouth" and "barge hole".  Averaging a fish a rod through most of September in the Sacramento River, salmon fishing guides working the Sacramento River have been reporting "limit out" style fishing for better then a week now and show no signs of slowing down according to "Fish On Jon" (Jon Kenyon) owner and operator of Fish On With Jon guide service FishOnWithJon.com. Jon Kenyon has been checking in daily with full boat limits of quality kings ranging in size from 7 to 13 pounds with a occasional three or four year old chinook mixed in tipping the scales to 30 pounds. A solid roe bite had put Kenyon at the dock by quit time on Sunday September 24, 2017 at 2:00pm with limits of King Salmon.

Wednesday September 27, 2017 Jon Kenyon again checked in with boat limits of 8 king salmon to 12 pounds that the Sacramento River salmon fishing guide caught on his cured salmon roe. Reaching limits before the 2:00 pm cut off for the daily guided salmon fishing tours.

with SalmonSacRiver.com also checked in this last week as she visited the Barge Hole on the Sacramento River at the mouth of Battle Creek in Tehema Co, Ca where she reported limits for her and her father who back bounced cured salmon roe to get there limit in about two hours of fishing time on September 19, 2017.  Kyla noted that fish could be seen jumping and that several other boats were landing salmon to 15 pounds the entire two hours she was in attendance in the Barge Hole. Her father who is known for his egg fishing in the Barge hole has retained his limit of King Salmon several times since their father/daughter outing on September 19, 2017.

Farther back down the Sacramento River near Corning, Ca at Woodson Bridge reports of some larger salmon in the three to four year old year class have been reported moving through the system. Cris Linnet of OFY Guide Service from Paradise, Ca reported about a fish a rod average this week fishing out of Woodson Bridge on the Sacramento River. Although the bite slowed a bit as the majority of two year olds pushed through headed for the Barge Hole, the fish that showed up behind the two year olds were much larger in size. Tipping the scales anywhere from 20 pounds well into the mid 30 pound class. Sacramento River salmon fishing guide Chris Linnet put some big chinook salmon on the chopping block this previous week using sardine wrapped K16 Kwikfish to trigger these big king salmon to strike.
