Northern California Fishing Report For: Sacramento River White Sturgeon, Eel River Winter Steelhead, And Clearlake Crappie Fishing. December 24, 2016

Twas the day before Christmas and all through the house, a constant chatter of fishing kept the guest wanting to click the mouse. Over eggnog and vodka, most gathered to see, SalmonSacRiver posted this weeks fishing report as quick as could be. With one click of the mouse, we were sure to see, what part of Northern California had the best fishing to be. By the end of the first paragraph, the powers that be, said "we want giant Clearlake Crappie with Johny Pearl, that's easy to see." " Catching a Crappie every cast", says Pearl. How much better could the fishing be? After all, it is Christmas Eve. So book that trip with SalmonSacRiver please. The day after Christmas will be every cast indeed....

Clearlake fishing report as reported by John Pearl of J.P. Guide Service on December 23, 2016. "I found the big Crappie and big bluegill, and the giant cats should be biting as the upcoming storm pushes through." Reports Pearl when I saw just two days ago in Lake Co. Ca. Pearl Reported the hottest action on the lake is the Crappie bite, which he exclaimed was a fish every cast as they gorge on the balled up Shad in the lake. Crappie to several pounds were brought in on Pearls last outing. With only yesterdays storm bringing a small change to the lakes dynamics, Pearl thought the Crappie bite would be consistent for at least a week or better, and the giant Channel and Blue Catfish would likely blow wide open sometime around Christmas Day or early the following week. The largemouth bass are still actively feeding and Pearl is booked with two of his full day bass trips in the week following Christmas but has several days still available for the lights out Crappie fishing. This Crappie fishery at Clearlake is a excellent opportunity to take the whole family out on a vacation day. With most kids being out of school until after the New Year and work days taken off by some parents, this Crappie fishing experience will leave no one bored and catching opportunities will be fast and had by all members of the family regardless of skill level. John provides all the tackle and equipment needed and is a super family friendly guide. For reservations with J.P.      Mike Rasmussen with SalmonSacRiver.com reports that on December 21 and 22, 2016 he targeted the White Sturgeon that typically migrate up river to spawn between December and late March every year. Rasmussen reported having only one opportunity in the two days spent on the Sacramento River near Tisdale, Ca and it was missed. Although reporting zero sturgeon to the boat he did say the fished had definitely started to move up river on their annual migration as the Sacramento River Fishing Guide reported seeing over a dozen White Sturgeon breach in his two day scouting trip. "The water was a bit higher then I like it and the salad was loading up on the line real bad. The Rods needed to be reeled in and cleaned every 15 mins." Reported Rasmussen. He also explained the water temp was at 46 degrees, a touch on the chilly side as Rasmussen would like to see river temps over 50 degrees ideally. With one more significant rise taking place at press time, the bite should be kicking in late in the week or even more likely right after the New Year. Rasmussen is currently booking days for clients that are interested in these prehistoric fish.  If interested please contact Mike Rasmussen by cell phone at 530-722-8876 or on the web at SalmonSacRiver.com by clicking the "Book Now" page.      Coastal Steelhead fishing always kicks into high gear immediately following Christmas Day traditionally. This 2016-2017 winter steelhead season will be no exception as Northern California including the Redwood Coast have had great rainfall totals to current date. Northern California Salmon and Steelhead fishing guide Mike Rasmussen with SalmonSacRiver.com reports that the majority of the few dozen rivers, creeks, and streams that wild Steelhead migrate up, here in Northern California will all be in shape and fishable by the end of this coming week following Christmas Day. Some rivers will clear up and fish before slower clearing river systems are silt free enough for anglers to chase these crazy and acrobatic California Steelhead. But by the first of the year almost all rivers will be fishing excellent here in Nor Cal. Rasmussen would like to point out to check all angling regulations for bait restrictions and opening and closure dates on rivers in which you are not familiar. For example the Mattole River in Southern Humbolt Co doesn't open until January 1, 2017.

Rasmussen Reports that he made a quick scouting trip over to the South Fork of the Eel River along Hwy 101 as it came into shape on December 21, 2016. After two days spent waiting on Dyno's to bite on the Sacramento River Rasmussen decided to run up Hwy 20 to the South Fork of the Eel River to validate his feelings of big chrome steelhead already spread throughout the system. Rasmussen reports him and friend Ronnie Linder from Leggett, Ca fished the South Fork for only 2 hours on the afternoon of the 22 of December. Rasmussen intuition paid off even thought the river was still a little high for easy steelhead fishing. The Northern California Fishing guide with SalmonSacRiver.com is now taking reservation for drift boat fishing for steelhead on several Northern California Steelhead rivers, all depending on river conditions and fishability. A excellent steelhead season here in Nor Cal should be expected with all the early rains and plenty of water flowing down the many steelhead rivers the North Coast offers. Don't hesitate to book a Steelhead fishing trip now as all rivers are loaded up from top to bottom with chrome psychotic steelhead. You know what they say, "the big ones come first". Rasmussen will be spending the month of January and early February bouncing back and forth between steelhead and Sacramento River Sturgeon. For those who have never fished the Eel River system for Steelhead, you really don't know what you are missing from this healthy catch and release fishery. Don't hesitate or wait to book a trip with guide Mike Rasmussen, you can book today by calling cell phone number 530-722-8876 or on the web at SalmonSacRiver.com and by email at salmonsacriver@gmail.com. Take full advantage of the next 7 days great weather and get out in the outdoors and even experience something new or something you may have always wanted to do but put off.  Come spend a day with SalmonSacRiver.com fishing guides and see whats been waiting for you.  Merry Christmas to all....
