Sacramento River Salmon Fishing Report 8/10/26 “Salmon fishing picks up….

….on the Sacramento River over the past week. Local salmon fishing guides tore into a fresh batch of king salmon as they made their way into the upper river near Red Bluff, Ca. What started off early last week as a pretty good plug bite, turned into a excellent boondog bite by the end of the week. The few salmon fishing charters working the area around Red Bluff averaged better then a fish per rod. Salmon fishing guides Dakota Townley, and Jonny Eller pulled 4-5 fish a day for their clients last week. Keeping customer happy with great quality king salmon in their ice chest as they head home from their salmon fishing trips in far NorCal. Having the ability and knowledge to know when and where to fish cured salmon roe was clutch this week as the king salmon moving through this stretch of the Sacramento River turned shy to the plugs and turned on to a cured roe sulfate bite over night. This past week around Red Bluff, Ca the signs of a bountiful season ahead were present as the first wave of new kings rolled through town.

Further down the Sacramento River near Corning, Ca long time salmon fishing guide Dave Jacobs held his ground in some of the river’s deepest holes. Producing a fish per rod or better for his clients over the last week. Dave’s extensive experience as a salmon fishing guide allowed him to pattern these early season king salmon. Keeping his boat over the fish, and using the almost forgetten salmon fishing technique of “back bouncing” cured salmon roe. Something the newer generation of salmon fishing guides know nothing about. In my opinion there is no faster way to fill the fish box up with limits of king salmon then back bouncing roe.

Salmon fishing has picked up considerably on the Feather River near Oroville, Ca. Salmon fishing guide Logan Wurm had kept his clients happy this past week while hanging roe in the famous “outlet hole”. Averaging a fish per rod or better this past week. A new push of king salmon moved into the outlet hole following the last full moon. Logan expects salmon fishing to only get better in the coming weeks. Eventually peaking out in mid September. The quality of king salmon coming out of the outlet hole and the Feather River in general is fantastic. For you bank fisherman the area between Gridley, Ca and the Outlet Hole in Thernelito, Ca is probably statistically your best chance for finding success from the bank.

Stay tuned for another salmon fishing update in the next ten days, as we stay up on the current fishing reports on Northen California’s salmon fishing. Tight Lines! Good luck out there…
