Sacramento River Fishing Report For: Striped Bass Fishing On The Sacramento River. April 16, 2019

The Sacramento River has finally come to life this past week. Despite the much higher then usual river water flows that have inhibited the striped bass fishing, for the first two weeks of the 2019 spring striped bass season. Even the muddy river water and poor visibility didn’t seem to make a difference this week. “Linesides” ( nick name for striped bass ) started filling up fish boxes for fishing guides and sport fishermen who accepted the challenge of fishing in less than desirable fishing conditions on the Sacramento River this past week. As well; limits of a great grade of keeper striped bass to 26 inches were brought in for processing by fishing guide Mike Rasmussen of SalmonSacRiver.com on April 15, 2019. Who found great success chucking Reaction Innovations’ “white trash” swimbaits in the 4inch pattern. Accompanied by a 3/4 oz lead head, and slow rolled ( retrieved slowly ). The striped bass fishing guide also found similar success trolling Yo-Zuri yo-zuri.com broken back deep diving lures. Trolled at around 3.5 mph, and producing a larger grade of bass. Justin Thompson of https://www.justingthompsonfishing.com found the Sacramento River to be very successful this past week himself. With the veteran fishing guide from Redding, Ca putting up limits of striped bass for his clients on several different outings this week. Focusing his efforts mainly around the Colusa, Ca region of the Sacramento River. Trolling live minnows seemed to work best for Thompson as he continually put nice striped bass in his live well. Keeping customers grinning from ear to ear.

The Sacramento River seems less then ideal for most boaters and recreational anglers. Although one should remember the striped bass are showing up to spawn regardless of river conditions. They are currently present in the Sacramento River in more then sufficient numbers to keep anglers busy for the remainder of the season. And finally some good news on the projected weather forecast. Helping anglers catch a break from the constantly rising Sacramento River thus far in the 2019 fishing season. After months of Northern California rainfall, it seems we have finally caught a break in the weather. Ten consecutive days of California sunshine are forecasted for Northern California as of April 15, 2019. Temperatures reaching the mid to high 80 degree range are also forecasted to exist. As this years first strong high pressure sets in over the Golden State. Relieving major strain on swollen reseviors that have reached there peak of water storage and have been releasing a much higher then usual volume of water to keep the crucial NorCal lake levels in check. The Sacramento River which currently sits at around 64 stage feet on the Colusa, Ca bridge hydrography. Is forecasted to drop 4 stage feet this week. Bringing the Sacramento River back into its banks and stopping all the excess river water from running out through vast bypass’ that confuse and divert migrating fish species. Species of fish that are heading up the Sacramento River at the current time ( spring run salmon, striped bass, white sturgeon, american shad, and some hatchery steelhead ). Finally it seems the stars have aligned for the striped bass anglers and fishing guides of Northern California. And the timing couldn’t have been better for the eagerly awaiting striped bass enthusiest who have been more then patient waiting for the long winter to come to a end.
