The Sacramento River has become the host to California's White Sturgeon population as the prehistoric fish have arrived in river for their annual spawn. Captain Dave Jacobs of Professional Guide Service ( sacramentofishing.com ) teaming up with Northern California fishing guide Mike Rasmussen ( salmonsacriver.com ) made a migration of their own. Setting up shop at ground zero for sturgeon fishing on the Sacramento River in Colusa, Ca. Joining the duo of Sacramento River fishing guides is local fishing guru Ryan Tripp. Who aids in the daily efforts of both fishing guides. Making the guided sturgeon fishing trips much more successful with his overall knowledge and functional ability when moving around the jet boats. Keeping the clients in the water with regularly change fresh bait. "Being efficient and maximizing your bait presence on the river bottom with your rod spread is key to having a successful trip" explains the young river guide in training, Ryan Tripp! Ryan went on to explain the simplicity of a standard six rod set. "It's idiot proof really. It completely covers the substrate channels used by the sturgeon when waiting for a spawn to occur. I mean how hard is it to place six rods in a row two feet apart. The set up is important but not as important as a cold water roe cure." says Tripp as he walked away from the questioning!

This week has been very productive for white sturgeon on the Sacramento River near Colusa, Ca according to both well know sturgeon fishing guides. High daily catch numbers have accompanied the guided fishing trips this week so far. Averaging over a dozen hook-ups per outing for the first three days of this work week. Despite rain, a rising and dropping Sacramento River, and the pesky wind the Sacramento River remained fairly quiet, due most likely to the inclement weather. "This river comes up several feet and muddies up and most of the sturgeon fishermen run for the couch. Waiting for the river to drop before returning to fish. We live for these days." Says sturgeon fishing guide Mike Rasmussen.

River water temperatures remain ideal for the spawning White Sturgeon on the Sacramento River and the increase in river water flow rate should only help increase the amount of sturgeon coming up the river to spawn. A great week of sturgeon fishing is ahead of us as we roll closer to April 1, 2018. And this trio of anglers taking clients on high impact sturgeon fishing trips remains the top north state bite going on in our rivers and lakes. These river guides and dedicated anglers will be fishing the Sacramento River for White Sturgeon until the first of next month. Plenty of opportunities still exist and reservations are plentiful with two 22ft Alumaweld Super V's heading out twice daily. The first trip leaves at 7:00am returning at 3;30pm, and the second trip leaving at 4:30pm returning after dark at 9:30pm for processing. "We can handle larger corporate groups this week, as well as smaller private groups looking to keep friend and family member the only other people on board their charter."
